SMBC - Alumni
“When I played for the club I was an extremely raw player who had no idea of the game. After being part of the program, I left with a greater sense of volleyball skills and life lessons that I use everyday. SMBC is family that will always support you and will give all they have to make you a better athlete. I feel proud to be part of SMBC because I genuinely feel they cared for me as a person and not just an athlete. I would not be where I am now if it was not for the program. The staff and coaches will always have a special place in my heart. The program is a great place to instill those core values that will help you in life and volleyball. Go Beach!”
"I joined the Santa Monica Beach Club when I was about 13 years old. I stayed with the club up until I left for college and my experience with the club was wonderful. The coaches were all fantastic and became like my second family. The success of their teams speak for the overall skills and technique taught at the club. But the loyalty from so many players including myself reveals the personal growth that takes place at the club. Each of my coaches took a direct interest in me as a person and I was able to grow as both a person and a player--learning life skills such as teamwork, time management, sacrifice, and determination. SMBC helped me to become who I am today, and has helped me reach my goals in volleyball playing at a division 1 college for 4 years and now playing at the professional level in Europe."
-- Taryn Robertson, SMBC '06 College: UC Irvine, CA Professional in Europe
"SMBC is a special volleyball club, because it is more like a family. I played with SMBC for three valuable years. The amazing coaching staff helped me realize my potential and was a driving force behind my recruitment toq Arizona State University, a division one team. The coaches at SMBC also helped me succeed at ASU through their teachings of hard work and commitment to being a team player."
-- Danielle Fernandes, SMBC '04 College: Arizona State University

"I am very lucky to be a part of the SMBC family. I loved being a part of a competitive atmosphere with coaches that are concerned with the growth and success of their athletes. The coaches at SMBC put a lot of time and effort into helping me succeed and instilled in me a strong work ethic, enhanced my competitive nature and showed that I was capable of playing at the next level. SMBC gave me the opportunity to play at Northern Arizona University for four years and complete my undergraduate degree. I was blessed with a very special team and I still treasure the experience I had today. After college I wanted to give young players the opportunities I had and share the volleyball knowledge that began with the coaches at SMBC. I now stay involved by coaching club volleyball for TAV in the Dallas/Fort Worth area."
-- Emily Osiadiaz, SMBC 05' College: Northern Arizona University
“I had a great experience with SMBC and always felt that the coaches had the best intentions for me as a player. They were very invested in getting me as many reps and court time as possible (although sometimes I resented that). I now look back on my experience and see how lucky I was to learn everything that I did from playing club because it allowed me to be more adaptable in a D1 college program. Overall, I always viewed SMBC as one big happy family and I was so proud to be a part of it.”
"Mileva and I started playing volleyball at a young age and got hooked. Our goal was to go to college so volleyball kept us focused. Through discipline and hard work, those goals can be achieved."
"I began playing for SMBC when I was 15 years old. Needless to say, my skills at that time, were highly under developed. However, the coaches that I had in my two years at the club were extremely patient and determined in helping me develop my volleyball skills as well as my knowledge of the game. As a result of playing for the wonderful coaches at SMBC, my game excelled and I went on to pursue and achieve my dream of playing college ball. The coaches and the teams that I played for became like a second family. This new family and the dedication of the coaches and players is what made my experience at SMBC worthwhile. I am truly thankful for the opportunities and tools that were given to me at SMBC: they have greatly influenced my continual growth in the game as well as a person. CLASS OF 2011
